Top police officers shunted in Assam

October 06, 2004 14:11 IST

In a major reshuffle, the Assam government has transferred several senior police officials, including Dhubri's Superintendent of Police.

The move came after ten people were killed in a militant attack in Jalabill village, which is under Bogribari police station in western Assam's Dhubri district, on Wednesday. Dhubri is about 300km from state capital Guwahati, close to the West Bengal-Bangladesh border.

Dhubri police superintendent Dr L R Bishnoi was transferred on Wednesday night, sources said. The name of his successor has not yet been announced.

IGP R M Singh, who was in charge of the Bodoland Territorial Area District, has been given charge of operations. IPG G Bhuyan, in-charge of Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences, has replaced Singh. Bhuyan, in turn, will be replaced by IGP Pradeep Kumar as head of the investigations cell. IGP A K Mullick, who was with the Assam Police Housing Corporation, has been posted as IGP (border).
