The prime minister assured them that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act will be replaced by a more humane law.

The meeting took place at the Raj Bhawan after Dr Singh expressed his desire to meet the women, official sources said.

Manipur has been witness to violent demonstrations in the past couple of months against the AFSPA.

Throughout his current visit to the northeast, the prime minister has said a committee will set up to point weaknesses and aberrations in the AFSPA and recommend changes in the law.
