Jaya grants Rs 5 lakh to Sankararaman's family

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced a grant of Rs5 lakh for the family of Sankararaman.

A junior priest, Sankararaman was murdered in the Varadarajaperumal temple complexin Kanchipuram on September 3. Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi has been arrested in the case.

Sankararaman's widow Padma had sought financial help for her family, whichshe claimed was reelingunder poverty, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said, making a suo motu statement in the assembly.

The amounthas beensanctioned from the chief minister's relief fund, she said.
