Jaya grants Rs 5 lakh to Sankararaman's family

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the family of Sankararaman.

A junior priest, Sankararaman was murdered in the Varadarajaperumal temple complex in Kanchipuram on September 3. Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi has been arrested in the case.

Sankararaman's widow Padma had sought financial help for her family, which she claimed was reeling under poverty, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said, making a suo motu statement in the assembly.

The amount has been sanctioned from the chief minister's relief fund, she said.
