At least 55 passengers of the 106-Dn Lalgola passenger train were injured when it collided head-on with a goods train in Nadia district of West Bengal on Saturday, Eastern Railway sources said in Kolkata.

The Sealdah-bound train was entering the loop line at the Birnagar station when the accident occurred at 1120 IST, the sources said. The driver of the goods train allegedly disregarded the signal, they said.

Of the injured, seven were admitted to the Ranaghat civil hospital, while one was taken to the Krishnagar state hospital in a serious condition.
