Shinde sworn-in as AP governor

Former Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde was sworn-in as the new governor of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

Sixty two-year-old Shinde was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Devendra Gupta at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, besides Shinde's well-wishers from Maharashtra, were among those who attended the ceremony. Shinde succeeds Surjit Singh Barnala, who took over as the governor of Tamil Nadu,

Earlier, Shinde, who arrived in Hyderabad from Mumbai by a special aircraft, was received by Chief Minister Reddy, his cabinet colleagues, senior government officials and leaders of various political parties. Trustees of the Shirdi Trust in Maharashtra felicitated the new governor immediately after the swearing-in ceremony.
