Manmohan Singh refuses to change for swearing-in ceremony

May 20, 2004 12:52 IST

Prime Minister designate Manmohan Singh is a simple man.

Which is why he will wear his "regular clothes" when he is sworn in as prime minister by President A P J Abdul Kalam, possibly on Saturday.

Asked by reporters whether special clothes had been ordered for the swearing-in ceremony, his wife Gursharan Kaur said, "He will wear his regular clothes."

"I think he will be uncomfortable if he has to wear special clothes," she added with a smile on her face.

Singh usually wears a white pyjama kurta and sports a light blue turban.
