Gujarat riots: 15 held for massacre of 17 people

June 25, 2004 04:54 IST

The Gujarat police on Thursday arrested 15 people allegedly involved in the massacre of 17 persons from the minority community in Delol village, about 30km from Godhra, during the post-Godhra communal riots.

The arrests were made after an intensive combing operation launched in the areas in the vicinity of Delol village in the early hours, Kalol police told PTI over phone.

The accused were absconding since the massacre, Godhra DSP B K Jha told PTI. Some more accused are still absconding.

These persons are accused of killing 17 people in Delol village on March 1, 2002 and then destroying the evidence. The offence in this case was, however, registered only on December 17, 2003.

The arrested persons will be produced in the local court on Friday.

The police had earlier arrested six persons in connection with this case.
