EC stays UP Rajya Sabha results

June 21, 2004 15:17 IST

The Election Commission has imposed a stay on the announcement of results for the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh following complaints from the Congress that nomination papers of two of its candidates were rejected "unconstitutionally."

The EC issued a directive in this connection to its election officer in Lucknow after a Congress delegation met the commission.

The commission is expected to meet in the evening and take a decision.
