June 18, 2004 18:36 IST

The National Human Rights Commission on Friday sought a report from Gujarat police over the killing in an encounter of four persons, including a girl, who were alleged to be terrorists on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports questioning the police claim that the slain persons were terrorists, NHRC directed the Gujarat Director General of Police and Ahmedabad Senior Superintendent of Police to ensure the probe was undertaken as per the guidelines of the Commission and furnish a report within six weeks.
