More relief for flood-hit Assam

The flood situation in Assam further improved on Tuesday with all the major rivers, including the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, showing signs of receding.

The situation in Karimganj, Cachar, Morigaon, Nagaon and Dhubri remains grim with the rivers still flowing above the danger level, sources said in Guwahati.

The toll is now 169 with three more people drowning in Cachar district in Barak valley.

Around 1.21 crore people in 11,000 villages of all the 27 districts of the state have been affected.

The total crop area affected is 7,89,313 hectares while about 600,000 houses have been damaged.

The situation in Morigaon district remains grave with National Highway- 37 still submerged.
