A case was registered in the Mushiganj police station and senior civil and police officials have reached the spot.

A similar incident had taken place last year in Punnpur village of the constituency when Mayawati was the chief minister. At that time, Rahul's sister PriyankaGandhi had taken up cudgels on behalf of the victim, Ram Bhajan, a dalit, and helped him register a case with the police.
