Spanish couple renew vows in Marwari style

July 21, 2004 19:26 IST

A Spanish couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in a unique way: by performing a Marwari-style marriage ceremony in Bikaner on Tuesday night.

The groom left for the bride's house in a horse driven baggi (carriage) in typical Marwari style.

The baraat (procession comprising groom's family and relatives) was welcomed by his mother-in-law with traditional aarti (with lamp and vermillion dot on forehead) as Leeza, in bridal finery, waited in the women's quarters.

The couple's three children danced to Marwari tunes played by the band accompanying the marriage procession.

The couple later hosted a dinner for about two dozen relatives and friends who had specially come to India to attend their unique anniversary celebration.
