Shilpa Shetty's mother meets Modi

July 14, 2004 17:11 IST

Sunanda Shetty, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty's mother and a co-accused in an extortion case, on Wednesday called on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Sunanda and her husband Surendra have been accused of hiring underworld thugs to extort money from the owners of
Surat-based Praful Sarees.

Shilpa Shetty had done an ad campaign for Praful Sarees and it is believed that a large sum was due to her from the company.

Sunanda Shetty, who spent around 15 minutes with Modi, told waiting reporters that it was a "courtesy call."

When asked what was discussed in the meeting, Shetty said she spoke of "the beauty of Ahmedabad."

When pressed further, she said: "Other things were also discussed...I can't be just talking about Ahmedabad alone....it is personal."

She, however, denied any discussion with the chief minister on the case pending against her in the Surat court.
