Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi

President A P J Abdul Kalam on Friday led the nation in paying tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 57th martyrdom day.

Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, Speaker Manohar Joshi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes at Rajghat, the samadhi of the apostle of peace. Defence Minister George Fernandes and the three service chiefs were also among a host of dignitaries who visited Rajghat to pay tributes.

An all-religion prayer was also held at the samadhi on the occasion.
