Sonia-Pawar rally unlikely

January 30, 2004 21:23 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar may not share a dais after all

The two leaders were supposed to have jointly addressed a rally of Banjara tribals at Digras in Yavatmal district, about 230 km from Nagpur, on January 31.

But Pawar told PTI on telephone from his hometown, Baramati, on Friday that he would not be in a position to attend the rally due to prior commitments in his constituency.

He said he had requested Maharashtra assembly Speaker Arun Gujarati to attend the event.

Pawar said he would be in Baramati till February 3, when a postgraduate school of biotechnology would be inaugurated.
