After bars, raids on matka dens in Mumbai February 26, 2004 08:48 IST Continuing its crackdown on illegal activities in the city, the Mumbai police raided matka (gambling) dens and single-digit lottery centres on Wednesday night, arresting 176 persons and confiscating lottery tickets worth Rs 1,800,000, police sources said on Thursday.
Police also raided a beauty parlour on Wednesday evening in west Mumbai and arrested five persons under the Immoral Traffic Act. The action comes a day after raids on 62 dancing bars and beauty parlours in Mumbai in which close to 1,000 people, including over 700 bar-maids, were detained.
