Phoolan murder accused wanted in several cases

Sher Singh Rana, an accused in the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi, is wanted in several cases in Uttaranchal, a police report said on Thursday.

Rana escaped from Delhi's high-security Tihar jail on Tuesday.

The report prepared by DIG, Haridwar, Ashok Kumar says Rana was involved in the Punjab National Bank dacoity at Ashley Hall in 1997.

The accused, who hails from Roorkee town in Haridwar district, robbed Rs 10 lakh from the bank and shot dead its security guard.

Rana was also involved in another robbery at the PNB's Ganganahar branch in 2001. He is accused of robbing Rs 15 lakh in this case.

There are excise evasion cases pending against Rana in Jawalapur area of Haridwar.

The car used by Rana to escape after allegedly killing Phoolan Devi too was a stolen one, the report said.
