February 10, 2004 17:37 IST

A dalit woman was allegedly raped and then set on fire by her landlord and his friend in Tulsi Nagar in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

The owner of the house she lived in and his friend allegedly raped the woman on Sunday night, and when she threatened to complain doused her with kerosene and torched her.

The woman sustained 90 per cent burns and has been admitted to the district hospital in Shivpuri. Her condition is reported to be critical.

Both the accused are absconding, police said.
