Tidal waves that lashed coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday have claimed 77 lives and over 1,200 people are reported missing, according to official sources in Hyderabad.

Unofficial reports, however, put the toll at 104.

Six coastal districts -- Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and East Godavari -- were hit by tsunami waves triggered by a powerful earthquake in Indonesia.

Over 22,000 people have been evacuated to safer places, sources added.
