PM to visit affected areas

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit areas affected by Sunday's tsumani waves in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Kerala on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The prime minister will return to the capital on Wednesday, a spokesman from prime minister's office said.

Congress president and ruling United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi is visiting Andaman and Nicobar islands to supervise rescue and relief operations.

Over 3000 people have been killed by the killer waves that pounded the islands on Sunday.

Sonia is accompanied by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and All India Congress Committee general secretary Ambika Soni.
