Musharraf goes back on pledge to nation

Going back on his promise to give up his military post by the end of the year, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf said on Saturday that he will continue as the army chief.

Addressing the nation last year, Musharraf had promised that he will relinquish the army chief's post by the end of 2004.

According to media reports, the Pakistani president will address the nation to tell the people what prompted him to go back on his promise.
