Lalu, Paswan bhai, bhai: PM

December 16, 2004 15:57 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday set at rest the controversy over the alleged spat between his Cabinet colleagues, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan, saying the matter be treated as 'closed'.

"Both (Lalu and Paswan) have made statements in Parliament denying that they have made any such allegations against each other," the PM said in the Rajya Sabha. He said this when senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj sought a clarification from him on the issue.

"In the light of [the] clarifications, the matter may be settled and there is no need for any further clarification," he said.

Early this week, the House was thrown into turmoil over the issue, as BJP-led opposition stalled proceedings demanding statement from the PM, as the matter pertained to the collective responsibility of his Council of Ministers.
