Man booked for chaining son

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad | December 01, 2004 16:29 IST

A case has been filed against a cycle shop owner in Andhra Pradesh for chaining his 12-year-old son and forcing him to work at the shop.

National Child Labour Rehabilitation Project Director N Md Isaaq and Velugu Project Officer P Venkatrami Reddy raided B Mohan's B V Cycle Shop at Budhwarpeta Colony in Kurnool town on Tuesday and rescued B Srinivasulu.

A case against Mohan has been registered at III-Town police station.

The boy told the officials that his father shackled him with a chain when he refused to work and expressed his desire to go to school.

But the officials said Mohan chained Srinivasulu six months back after he ran away a couple of times without informing the family.

The boy will now be admitted to a residential school for child labourers.
