As secretary of state in Florida during the 2000 US presidential election, Katherine Harris overruled the state Supreme Court and certified that Florida's 25 electoral votes had been cast in favour of George W Bush, whose younger brother Jeb is Florida's governor. The decision helped catapult George W into the White House.
Indian American Republican Committee founder Dr Raghavendra Vijayanagar introduced Harris to the gathering.
Now a member of the US Congress, Harris said she was confident that the community would do everything to re-elect President Bush.
