This followed the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against her in a rioting case by a Karnataka court.

"I have sent my resignation to Naidu at 1500 IST and have requested him to accept it. In today's situation, my resignation is necessary," she told reporters in Bhopal.

Bharti said it will not be proper for her to surrender before any court while remaining in the post. "My resignation should be accepted without waiting for the outcome of the Hubli court hearing on August 23," the chief minister said.

She announced that she will launch a 'Tiranga Yatra' from Hubli to Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar via August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai next week to highlight the significance of the national flag.
