India and Pakistan on Saturday discussed their respective positions on demarcation of the international boundary in the Sir Creek area, a marshy land in Rann of Kutch, and agreed that early resolution of the issue would be in the interest of both countries.

"The talks were held in a frank and friendly atmosphere. The two sides elaborated upon their respective positions and had a detailed and useful exchange of views on the various issues involved," a joint press statement released at the end of the two-day talks said.

The Indian delegation to the talks was led by Surveyor General of India Prithvish Nag and the Pakistan side was
headed by Rear Admiral Ahsan-ul-Haq Chaudhry.

Sir Creek is one of the eight subjects in the Indo-Pak composite dialogue process resumed earlier this year. It follows close on the heels of official-level discussions on Siachen and promotion of friendly exchanges between the two countries.

Union Home Secretary Dhirendra Singh will leave for Pakistan on August 9 for two-day talks on combating terrorism and dealing with the menace of narcotics trade.
