Fringe benefits!

Priya Ganapati in New Delhi | April 28, 2004

Fringes are in!Poker straight hair is out.

Fringes are big this season, says Damon Kidd, an international hairstylist who has been with Wella (the renowned hair care giant) for the last 10 years. He is now in India for the Lakme India Fashion Week, to hold workshops at the Lakme beauty salon.

"I haven't seen fringes here [in India] yet. But they are big internationally. Fringes are the way to go," he says.

Kidd suggests fringes that are very straight, very blunt and fall right onto the upper eyelids.

If you want to look like a diva, he suggests a fringe that cuts across the forehead and covers almost one eye (much like the black patch worn by a pirate!).

For those who don't want to get that dramatic, Kidd suggests a fringe with a tousled, unkempt kind of haircut as the look for the season.

And this is what Kidd suggests your hair should look like:

Short hair

If you have short hair, go for a punk look -- in the very Seventies British style. And, oh yeah, don't forget to get the fringes!

Medium length hair

Go for a lot of waves. Curls are back in a big way, but it is soft curls that are in. The look is very feminine.

No harsh cuts or stiff hair. Remember to keep your hair very flowy, softly curling.

Long hair

Go for an asymmetrical, slightly layered haircut. Do we need to remind you again? Get fringes!

Colour is very important for both short and long hair.

"Muted gold and soft copper, these are the hair colours that will go well with Indian skintones," says Kidd.
