Bowing to pressure from opposition parties, Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari on Wednesday night announced the suspension of three police constables accused of teasing a local woman in Hardwar.

The incident had triggered widespread violence on Wednesday forcing police to open fire resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others.

All those injured in the firing, including journalists, would get compensation of Rs 50,000 each, he said.
