September 25, 2003 12:41 IST

Forty-seven people, including 13 children, have been admitted to three hospitals in south Mumbai with symptoms of food poisoning, the police said.

All of them developed diarrhoea and nausea on Wednesday night after they consumed some milk-based drink during a domestic function.

Thirty-six people, including 18 women and 10 children, were admitted to the J J Hospital and 11 of them were discharged after treatment, Hospital Superintendent Dr P D Mahajan told PTI.

The condition of those in the hospital was stable, he said.

Nine people, including three children, were admitted to Dawood Nursing Home in Nagpada, while two women were admitted to Bhatia Hospital, the police added.

Samples of the milk-product, which is believed to have caused food poisoning, have been sent to the J J Hospital for chemical analysis, the police added.
