Karupayee, an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator representing Kolathur (SC) constituency in Pudukottai district, has lodged a complaint with police alleging that her husband on September 9 tried to hang her from the ceiling of her flat in MLAs' hostel in Chennai.

She said her husband had even pledged her jewellery without her knowledge.

When the police went to arrest him, he escaped, but was taken into custody at a village near Pudukottai.

He was produced before a metropolitan magistrate on Monday and remanded to judicial custody toll October 5, the police said.
