Rajasthan Governor N C Jain died early on Monday morning following a massive heart attack in Jaipur.

Jain, 75, a former advocate general of Madhya Pradesh, was brought to Sawai Man Singh Hospital around midnight and doctors declared him dead at 0207 IST.

Jain leaves behind his wife, a son and three daughters.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was present at the hospital where Jain, who assumed the office of governor on May 14 this year, breathed his last.

His body has been taken for last rites to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh in a BSF plane.

Those who left for jabalpur include his wife, daughter, son-in-law, relatives, Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party president Vasundhara Raje Scindia, leader of opposition G C Kataria, and the state Finance Minister P Singh.

Gehlot, his Cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries placed wreaths on Jain's body before it was taken.

Gujarat Governor Kailashpati Mishra has been asked to handle the additional responsibility of Rajasthan.

The two-day visit of Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to Indore from Tuesday has been cancelled, official sources said.

Though no official reason was given for the cancellation of the visit, sources said it was mainly due to the demise of Jain.
