Two Muslim clerics from Canada were denied entry into the United States reportedly for picking up the wrong day - September 11 - to fly, an Islamic civil rights group said in Florida.

Ahmed Kutty and Sheikh Abdul Hamid were on Thursday booked on a flight back to Toronto by authorities after being detained for 16 hours at the airport, the American-Islamic Relations group said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents interrogated the duo on Thursday, but did not charge them with any crime.

The clerics were on a fund-raising mission to Florida.
