Since August 31, fourteen major militancy-related incidents took place, including two fidayeen strikes, encounters, explosions and killings, claiming the lives of 56 people -- 33 militants, 16 civilians and seven securitymen.

"While 20 militants were killed in Kashmir, 13 other were killed in Jammu," security sources told PTI.

Ghazi Baba, who masterminded the December 13 attack on Parliament nearly two years ago, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Noorbagh area of Srinagar.
