A three-day conference of director generals of police in New Delhi from November 3 will discuss the threat to internal security from terrorist outfits based in Bangladesh and the detrimental spillover effect of money power in electoral politics, a top government official said on Thursday.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani will attend the conference.

The official pointed out that the government is worried about the burgeoning anti-Indian activities carried out from Bangladesh and the matter was recently taken up with Dhaka by Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal.

He said Bangladesh Foreign Minister Morshed Khan, when he was visiting India, was apprised of the anti-India activities from his country.

"Deputy Prime Minister Advani has repeatedly expressed his anguish at the continuing infiltration from Bangladesh. It has serious implications for our national security," he said.

He said the detrimental effect of burgeoning money power in electoral politics would also be discussed at the conference.

"Even by our conservative estimate, hundreds of crores of rupees is spent by candidates in parliamentary elections," the official said.

He indicated that the Supreme Court directive on electoral reforms may curtail this trend a bit.

Terrorism in the northeast will also be a point of focus at the conference.
