Sons of car designer Dilip Chhabria and Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament and Maharashtra unit president Abu Asim Azmi have been detained in Dubai on drug charges.

Bonnetto Chhabria and Farhan Azmi were detained along with two more people -- identified as Prasad Dandekar and Shaan Uttam Singh -- from a hotel in Dubai on October 21, police sources said.

Dilip Chhabria told rediff.com: "My son has been cleared by the police. Tomorrow he will be coming back to Mumbai."

"My son was not arrested for possessing or using drugs. He was in the group in which one of the persons was caught with drugs. He was not found carrying any drug nor was he found positive in the sense that he is not in this habit," he added.

Repeated efforts to contact Azmi proved futile as his office sources said he was performing namaz.

But Azmi's wife Zahida told rediff.com: "Mere beta cigarette nahin peetha (My son does not smoke). We have a hotel at Colaba. He went to Dubai to hire a cook for that with a few friends. I just got a call from Dubai that they were detained by the police because one of them was smoking cigarette which contained something."

Farhan Azmi owns Hotel Koyla and Hotel Basilico in south Mumbai.
