Woman gang-raped twice in Bihar

October 21, 2003 03:31 IST

In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman returning home from her parent's village was gang-raped twice in Jehanabad town in Bihar.

The woman had arrived from Bhaisma village in Jehanabad district to the bus stop in Jehanabad town on Sunday on her way to her home in Saidpur village.

Since it was beyond 8:00 pm, there were no buses on that route. She therefore accepted the offer of some persons in a jeep passing by to drop her in Saidpur, Superintendent of Police Anil Kishore Yadav said.

The five persons in the jeep stopped at a nearby dhaba for dinner. Later, instead of being driven home, she was gang-raped in the jeep and thrown out at the bus stop.

Her ordeal did not end there. She was forcibly picked up by another passing jeep and gang-raped again.

Local residents found the woman's son crying at the bus stand and took him to the police. He narrated what had transpired.

The woman was subsequently rescued from a Bihar State Electricity Board store in the town around midnight.

The guard there, Manjeet Rout, and five others, including the drivers of the two jeeps, were arrested in the raids that followed, Yadav said.
