The statues of St Peter's colonnade frame a tapestry depicting Mother Teresa during the beatification ceremony led by Pope John Paul II in Vatican City on October 19, 2003.

The ceremony during a festive Mass celebrated in St Peter's Square elevated Mother Teresa to the threshold of sainthood.

The huge tapestry showing the smiling nun was unveiled on the facade of St Peter's Basilica as a crowd of almost 300,000 people filled the square. It was an emotional moment for the thousands taking part in the ceremony.
