October 14, 2003 13:39 IST

A Punjab police team on Tuesday raided a farmhouse in Nihal Vihar area of Nangloi in Delhi owned by bhangra-pop star Daler Mehndi in connection with a case of fraud and cheating registered against the singer and his brother, Shamsher Singh, in Patiala.

The raid started at around 12.30 pm.

Police believe that Daler Mehndi and his brother are involved in an illegal immigration racket.

The case against the duo in Patiala followed a complaint by one Bakshish Singh, who alleged that Shamsher took Rs13 lakh from him with a promise to take him abroad.

Police suspect the duo includes potential illegal immigrants in the singer's troupe whenever he is touring abroad.

A team of about 50 police personnel searched the pop-star's farmhouse.
