Mayawati blames Vajpayee for CBI raids

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has held Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee responsible for the Central Bureau Investigation's raids on her residences and other premises owned by her and her family in Delhi, Lucknow, Khurda and Bulandshehar on Wednesday.

Close to a dozen premises were searched in the raids that began at 0830 IST.

Mayawati demanded that the assets of the prime minister's foster daughter and her husband be scrutinised.
 
The Bahujan Samaj Party leader told reporters that the investigating agency failed to recover anything incriminating in the raids.

She said the CBI seized Rs 5.5 lakh collected by party workers for the treatment of the ailing party leader, Kanshi Ram.
