SC won't order Centre to notify Delhi Rent Control Act

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to issue a direction to the Union government to notify the Delhi Rent Control Act, which was passed by Parliament and given assent to by the President in 1995.

A bench comprising Justice R C Lahoti and Justice Ashok Bhan dismissed the petition filed by Common Cause (NGO) seeking a direction to the government for notification of the Act to assuage the hardships of lakhs of tenants in the national capital.
