Punjab police officers have sent legal notices to pop singer Daler Mehndi in connection with his allegation that they had tried to extort money from him.

At a press conference in Delhi on Monday, the popular artiste had accused several policemen of Patiala district of demanding Rs 1.5 crore as bribe to bail him out of a case of cheating in which his brother Shamsher Mehndi is also an accused.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Patiala) Paramjit Singh Umaranagal told rediff.com that the allegations against him and other officers are false and baseless. "He will get our notice in the next two days," he said.

The singer has been accused of aiding illegal migration of job seekers by transporting them to other countries along with members of his troupe. Mehndi denies the allegation.
