Vajpayee speaks to Gogoi, Yadav

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and made known his concern over the continuing violence in Assam and Bihar.

Vajpayee enquired about the steps taken by the state governments to restore normalcy, official sources said in New Delhi.

Vajpayee also spoke to Railway Minister Nitish Kumar. The railway minister will meet Vajpayee on Friday and apprise him of the situation.

Hindi speaking people in Assam and residents of the northeast in Bihar have been attacked ever since some Bihari students were prevented from taking a railway recruitment examination in Assam.

Trains entering Bihar from the northeast are being targeted by mobs, while houses and other properties belonging to Hindi-speaking people in Assam and other parts of northeast are being attacked.
