Madhumita murder: Weapon recovered

November 14, 2003 22:54 IST

In yet another breakthrough in Madhumita Shukla murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday recovered the weapon with which the poetess was murdered.

Sources in Delhi said the country-made revolver was recovered from Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh at the instance of Prakash Chander Pandey, the alleged killer of Madhumita, who was arrested on November 10.

The CBI is probing the involvement of some more people, including policemen, in the murder conspiracy and for tampering with evidence.

The CBI is awaiting the results of the interrogation of Rohit Chaturvedi, Santosh Kumar Rai and Pandey.

Madhumita's servant Desraj, the lone witness in the case, had identified Rai and Pandey as the last persons to have met poetess.

The prime accused in the murder is former UP minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife, Madhumani.
