S P Singh to be acting Mumbai police chief

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satya Pal Singh will be the acting Mumbai police commissioner following Ranjit Singh Sharma's decision to go on leave from Friday, sources said.

Sharma, who retires on November 30, had met Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday morning and sought permission to go on leave.

On Wednesday, the Special Investigation Team probing the fake stamps scam had submitted a report to the Bombay high court listing Sharma's 'omissions and commissions'.

The report was submitted to the court in a sealed cover captioned 'Shri R S Sharma's Involvement'.
