Punjab Advocate General Atul Nanda said pop singer Daler Mehndi's options are getting limited after the Punjab and Haryana high court rejected his anticipatory bail application today.

Nanda told rediff.com on telephone from Chandigarh that the singer would have to move the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail or surrender.

"Since his anticipatory bail petition has already been rejected by the Delhi high court, and now by the Punjab and Haryana high court, he has only two options," Nanda said, "to move the apex court for stay of the arrest warrants issued against him by the Patiala courts, or surrender."

Justice Mehtab Singh Gill of the Punjab and Haryana high court, while rejecting Mehndi's bail petition, noted that custodial interrogation of the singer is necessary in the suspected illegal immigration racket.

Justice Gill also took serious note of the allegations of harassment levelled against the investigating agency by the singer and directed the inspector general of police, Patiala range, to submit an affidavit on the matter.

Ravinder Kumar, Mehndi's advocate, said his client would not surrender until he had exhausted all legal options.

"We will think whether to move the Supreme Court to get a stay of the arrest warrants issued against my client," he said.

Kumar said Mehndi could also apply for regular bail in the sessions court. "If it is rejected, we can move the high court and then the Supreme Court."

He said Mehndi's team was awaiting a certified copy of the Punjab and Haryana high court's order before deciding its future course of action.

Though the high court has rejected Mehndi's bail petition, Ravinder Kumar claimed the judgment was favourable to his client.
