Andhra Pradesh Governor Surjit Singh Barnala on Friday afternoon dissolved the state legislative assembly and asked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to head a caretaker government.

In a press communique, the Raj Bhavan said: "Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called on the Governor and presented the resolution of the Council of Ministers today recommending the dissolution of the AP State Legislative Assembly. The Governor, while accepting the recommendation of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers has requested N Chandrababu Naidu and the Council of Ministers to continue in office as a caretaker government. N
Chandrababu Naidu has agreed to this request."

The party-wise strength in the dissolved House was as follows: Telugu Desam Party 179, Congress 91, Bharatiya Janata Party 12, Majlis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen 4, Communist Party of India-Marxist 2, Telangana Rashtra Samithi 1 and Independents 5.
