At least ten persons were injured on Wednesday night in a blast in the posh and busy Nehrunagar area of Ahmedabad, official sources said.

Some are undergoing treatment at the V S Hospital while a few were discharged after first aid, hospital sources said.

The blast occurred some time after 2100 IST. "We suspect it was a crude bomb tied to the bicycle parked near a tea stall," Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 1) P C Thakur told PTI.

Commotion prevailed in the area and people thronged the scene of the blast. The area was cordoned off and police has stepped up vigil in other areas. Forensic Science Laboratory officials examined a cycle, a scooter and a motorcyle and collected blood stains from the site.

It was first such blast in a posh and peaceful area of the city since the 'tiffin' bomb blasts in Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service buses on May 29 last year.

Thakur described the blast as a "deliberate attempt" to terrorise people.
