TDP legislator hurt in naxal attack

Telugu Desam Party legislator Jaipal Yadav was seriously injured when naxalites opened fire at him in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, police said.

Yadav, who represents Kalwakurthy constituency, was returning after attending a meeting at Madugula village when the attack took place, the police said.

Two naxalites stopped his car near Madugula and opened fire. Soon, two more assailants emerged from nearby bushes and fired, the police said.

The legislator's security guard immediately took up position and retaliated.

Yadav, who received a bullet injury to his head, was admitted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad.
