November 06, 2003 09:45 IST

Two army jawans were killed and three others were injured in a powerful bomb explosion triggered by suspected United National Liberation Front insurgents in Moreh area, bordering Myanmar, in Manipur's Chandel district on Wednesday night.

The bomb exploded when Assam Rifles personnel of 37th battalion were returning to their camp after collecting water from Moreh, about 120 km southeast of Imphal, official sources said.

While one jawan died on the spot, the other succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital, they said. The injured jawans, they added, are out of danger.

The sources, quoting reports from Chandel district, said the insurgents crossed to Myanmar after the explosion.
