Daler's not a high priority case for Patiala police

November 07, 2003 01:53 IST

Notwithstanding issuance of fresh non-bailable warrants on Thursday against Indi-pop singer Daler Mehndi, allegedly involved in a human trafficking case, the Patiala police sought to downplay the case.

Denying the police was searching for the singer after a Patiala court recently rejected his bail plea, new Patiala SSP A S Rai told PTI over phone, "Investigations are in progress. We can't allow other cases to be ignored by giving priority to Daler's case. It is a normal case."

Daler Mehndi: Striking a Discordant Note

Issuing a fresh NBW against Daler, Civil Judge (Senior Division) P S Dhanoa said that the warrants were returnable by November 17.

Meanwhile, sources close to the beleaguered singer claimed that Daler was planning to move the Punjab and Haryana high court within a couple of days. Before that, sources in the Punjab Advocate General's office said, his counsel would have to file an application with the AG's office.

Daler has been incommunicado since the police questioned him for about 11 hours spread over two days from October 29.

Meanwhile, SP Bhupinder Singh Virk, who led a team to Mumbai to search the singer's flat there has been shifted to Chandigarh as Assistant Commandant of the 13th Battalion of the Punjab Armed Police.
